Make Full Use of the Format Painter

If you work in the type of office where you can’t install your own favourite productivity software due to strict IT policies, then it’s likely that Microsoft Office is already installed on your system. Microsoft Office is packed with features that can help you stay on top of things and get the job done.

Here is a useful tip:

Many of us are aware that we can use the Format Painter to copy the formatting from some text or some cell and apply that formatting elsewhere.

To do this you select the formatted item and then click on the Format Painter in the Clipboard group on the HOME tab. Once you’ve done that then just click in the cell in Excel, or run over the text in Word, to apply the selected formatting.

It works wonderfully! However, many of us have also been frustrated that we seem to be able to only apply that formatting once. But, if you look carefully at the instructions for the Format Painter you’ll notice a little detail that many overlook…

Rather than just clicking once, you can Double-Click the Format Painter instead, and then can apply the formatting as many times as you wish.

Once you’re finished with it you can click the Format Painter again to stop it, or press the ESC key on the keyboard.
